Dental implantology
IMPLANTOLOGY – or dental implants at Długosz & Długosz clinic
Missing teeth – or tooth loss is a very serious problem that significantly reduces the quality of life. This is not only due to a less aesthetic smile but also to impaired biting function – especially in the case of missing molars.
In such a case, a quick reaction and decision to start implant treatment are very important. This is because molars are primarily responsible for maintaining the correct height of occlusion – without them, other teeth wear out and move excessively. Implantology and prosthetics come to the rescue in such cases, helping to rebuild the tooth.
What are dental implants and what is tooth reconstruction on an implant?
An implant is a titanium screw which acts as a tooth root, providing support for a new tooth/crown. Using implants, we can restore a missing tooth or teeth with no need to file down the adjacent teeth. Implants are also the only option for patients who, for various reasons, have lost their prosthetic pillars – i.e. teeth on which bridges can be fitted. Dental implants are the only solution for those who are unable to accept removable appliances – i.e. dentures.
Tooth reconstruction on an implant is the fitting of a prosthetic reconstruction (i.e. crown) on an implant integrated with the bone. Crowns on implants are most often made of porcelain with a zirconium or metal substructure. A tooth rebuilt in this way is almost identical to our natural tooth.
What does the entire course of implant treatment usually look like?
- Consultation with a dentist, imaging diagnostics.
- Implantation procedure, i.e. implant fitting.
- Follow-up visits according to the doctor’s recommendations.
- After about 3 months, when the implant integrates with the bone, we can start prosthetic reconstruction on the implant – i.e. the fitting of a new crown (tooth reconstruction).
What does the implantation procedure look like at Długosz & Długosz clinic?
In our practice, we value patient safety and comfort above all. Implantation procedures are always preceded by a thorough dental consultation with our implantologist, based on a CT scan examination. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Our implantologists, Dr Tomasz Machan and Dr Tomasz Kruszec, use only the products from leading manufacturers of dental implants, Straumann and Ankylos. Based on advanced technology and close cooperation with a dental technician we make individual surgical templates in the case of large-scale procedures (e.g. in the case of edentulism), to precisely determine the target position of the implants, and thus increase the probability of success of the procedure and its safety.
Is it possible to immediately restore a missing tooth? Immediate implantation – tooth reconstruction – what is it?
Immediate implantation is most often done in the case of missing front teeth. We are able to reconstruct the tooth pillar in one visit – i.e. fit an implant and a prosthetic reconstruction on it in the form of a temporary crown. You keep it for the period of implant integration with the bone, so you have a normal smile during the convalescence period. After some time, the temporary crown must be replaced with a final crown.
