DENTAL IMPLANTS

An implant is a titanium screw that acts as a tooth root, providing support for a new tooth/crown. Thanks to implants, we are able to reconstruct a missing tooth or teeth.

MAKEOVER

A 40-year-old patient who underwent comprehensive dental treatment consisting of a complete reconstruction of the smile. The treatment applied dental implants, on which full-ceramic restorations were made both in the lateral sections and in the aesthetic zone.

What are dental implants and what is tooth reconstruction on an implant?

An implant is a titanium screw that acts as a tooth root, providing support for a new tooth/crown. Using implants, we can restore a missing tooth or teeth with no need to file down the adjacent teeth. Implants are also the only option for patients who, for various reasons, have lost their prosthetic pillars – i.e. teeth on which bridges can be fitted. Dental implants are the only solution for people who are unable to accept removable appliances – i.e. dentures.

Tooth reconstruction on an implant is the fitting of a prosthetic reconstruction (i.e. crown) on an implant integrated with the bone. Crowns on implants are most often made of porcelain with a zirconium or metal substructure. A tooth rebuilt in this way is almost identical to a natural tooth.

A new tooth in place of a missing one immediately, i.e. immediate implantation

Immediate implantation is a procedure that allows the reconstruction of the tooth pillar (implantation) and the installation of a temporary crown on it, during a single visit to the dentist’s. Such a prosthetic superstructure remains with the patient for the entire period of convalescence. After this time, the temporary crown must be replaced with a final crown.

But does “immediately” mean good? Are immediate implants stable? Is it a safe and effective solution? YES! But…

The key factor when making the decision about immediate implantation is the patient’s general health (adequate bone and oral cavity condition).

If these conditions are met and the dentist assesses that immediate implantation is safe for the patient, then this is undoubtedly a very good solution due to:

  • shorter treatment time;
  • the healing process is almost half shorter than in the case of multi-stage implantation;
  • gums remain at the same level as the natural tooth;
  • aesthetic comfort for the patient – the patient does not feel discomfort due to the gap in the dentition. In traditional implantation, a prosthetic casing is not immediately fitted on the implant.
