Occlusal bite reconstruction
Malocclusion means improper alignment of the upper and lower teeth, but also of the temporomandibular joint and muscles. Its symptoms include: gnashing of teeth, clicking in the joint, tooth abrasion, headaches or noticeable tension in the facial muscles.
Malocclusion may also result in sleep apnoea. After diagnostics, depending on the advancement of the disease, our specialists select the appropriate treatment using all proved solutions in the area of cosmetic treatments, prosthetics and implantology.
As our doctors participate in regular training courses, we are able to help patients with even major occlusal problems. Our doctors follow the latest guidelines of the Kois Centre and Dawson Academy.
What is the treatment for malocclusion like?
The diagnosis of malocclusion is based primarily on a thorough dental consultation, imaging diagnostics and an in-depth dental interview with the patient. Then, the patient qualified for occlusal treatment starts wearing a special device called a deprogrammer for about 3-4 weeks, which allows the doctor to assess the contacts between the upper and lower teeth in correlation with the correct position of the temporomandibular joints. Further treatment depends on the individual patient’s problem. It usually consists of appropriate adjustment of the height of the occlusion, e.g. by installing temporary PMMA overlays, onlay/inlay prosthetic reconstruction or crowns. The fees are therefore very diverse and depend on the given case.
What are the risks of untreated malocclusion?
Proper alignment between the upper and lower teeth is very important from the point of view of general health. Untreated malocclusion can cause headaches, neck pain, and even problems with sleep apnoea. In the case of tooth abrasion, we are even at risk of losing them completely.
